“Detection of underground infrastructure facilities using GPR scanning technology” presentation
At the invitation of the competent authorities and services of the Municipality of Bar, Montenegro, on September 10, 2021. a presentation organized by the Laboratory for Geoinformatics of the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad was held in the premises of the Municipality of Bar on the topic of the possibility of applying GPR scanning technology for the needs of detection and identification of underground infrastructure facilities. The moderators of the meeting were the President of the Municipality of Bar Dušan Raičević and Professor Dr. Miro Govedarica, the head of the Laboratory for Geoinformatics of FTS from Novi Sad.
The presentation was attended by representatives of all competent authorities and services of the Municipality of Bar, interested in the application of this technology. The presentation included an explanation of the principles of GPR scanning technology with an emphasis on procedures for detection and identification of underground infrastructure facilities, which were interpreted through adequate examples of radargrams from realized projects of the Center for Geoinformation Technologies and Systems FTS from Novi Sad. A special review is given on the elements of standards and legal regulations in this area. The mentioned part was presented by Professor PhD Aleksandar Ristic.
The second segment of the presentation included the practical application of GPR scanning technology in the area of the Old Town of Bar with two aspects:
- Detection and mapping of water supply infrastructure in Stara čaršija Street on the stretch from Starobarska pijaca to the entrance to the Stari Bar fortress.
- Detection of potential archaeological content on the plateau of the amphitheater within the Stari Bar fortress.
Demonstration of the practical application of GPR scanning technology was performed with equipment owned by the Laboratory for Geoinformatics FTS from Novi Sad. The process of acquisition and demonstration of technology was performed by Professor PhD Aleksandar Ristic and MSc Assistant Zeljko Bugarinovic.
