Geoportals and Geospatial Services
Geospatial portal or geoportal is an user interface for collection of online geospatial resources, which includes data sets and services.
The reference architecture contains four different classes of services that support the requirements of the geoprostor portals:
- Portal services – provide a unique point of access to geospatial data on the portal. Also, these services allow the management and administration of the portal.
- Catalog services – used to locate geospatial services and data. If they find what the user needs, these services provide him with information about spatial data services and data.
- Portrayal services – used to process geospatial data and prepare for their presentation to the user.
- Data services – used to provide geospatial content and data processing.
The geoportal architecture reference point has 3 basics roles that allow the exchange of services:
- Broker – this service registers services and returns possible offers based on user search criteria
- Service Provider (Provider) – A roll that registers a service with an intermediary and delivers it to clients.
- Applicant (Requestor) – the role that an intermediary delivers a service offer according to a certain criterion and which is connected to the service found with the service provider.
