A course on “Technology of scanning and data processing with ground penetrating radar – georadar”
Geoinformatics laboratory at the Faculty of Technical Sciences in Novi Sad hosted a course on technology of scanning and data processing with ground penetrating radar – georadar from 22.02. to 26.02.2021. Attendees of the course came from the City administration and the Public communal company “Water supply and sewerage” from Novi Pazar and Tutin municipality.
Theoretical part of the course included: definition and applicative value of underground utilities, levels of surveying, rules of placing and disposition of the underground utilities, hardware components of ground penetrating radar and scanning techniques, formation of radargrams and modes of work, scanning parameters, horizontal and vertical resolution, integrated mode of work, encoder calibration and dielectric constant calibration, polarization effects of EM waves, basic and advanced phases of data processing. This part of the course was presented by PhD Aleksandar Ristić, full professor at the FTS.
The Attendees were presented with the practical applications of ground penetrating radar and data processing which included: introduction to hardware and software components of the ground penetrating radar, acquisition parameter settings on the SIR4000 unit, encoder and dielectric constant calibration, 2D object scanning of various dimensions, materials, disposition, acquisition process for the development of a 3D model, reading the scanning results, processing the radargram including time zero offset, horizontal scaling, distance normalization, FIR filters, migration, deconvolution, creation and editing the 3D model. Practical part of the course was realized in the University of Novi Sad campus zone and computer laboratory where the data processing was done. This part of the course was held by PhD Milan Vrtunski and MSc Zeljko Bugarinović, both teaching assistants at the FTS.
At the ending of the course, full professor PhD Miro Govedarica and PhD Aleksandar Ristić awarded the participants with the certificates of course attendance and completion.
